ARMA, stylized as ARMA, is a series of first-person tactical military simulation shooters originally developed for Microsoft Windows. The series emphasizes realism and authenticity, combining large-scale military operations across expansive terrains with intense close-quarters combat. The first installment was launched in 2006, with subsequent titles released until 2013. Over time, ARMA games have expanded their availability to platforms including Linux, Android, and iOS.
The inaugural game, ARMA: Armed Assault (known as ARMA: Combat Operations in the United States), debuted for Windows in November 2006 in the Czech Republic and Germany, followed by a European release in February 2007, and an American release in May 2007, utilizing the Real Virtuality 2 engine.
ARMA 3, a standalone title for Windows, was officially released on September 12, 2013, powered by the newer Real Virtuality 4 engine. Prior to its full release, it was accessible via Steam’s Early Access program beginning March 5, 2013. Between late 2015 and early 2016, ARMA 3 was also made available on Linux and Mac platforms in an earlier iteration, with the goal of aligning these versions more closely with the main Windows version.
